nVidia 260.19.29 and Sony VAIO Z

January 19th, 2011 by pdf

I’m happy to report that CustomEDID is no longer required as of this release, meaning that with a fixed BIOS, the VAIO Z can finally work on a standard Linux install with the nVidia binary blob. Yay!

    Hello,

I come from this forum, http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=218556&st=420

and someone read your posts about fixing the nvidia’s gfx card vaio z to run it on linux, esspecially these posts:

    http://0xc0dedbad.com/blog/category/linuxonvaioz/
    http://0xc0dedbad.com/blog/2011/01/19/nvidia-260-19-29-and-sony-vaio-z/

I guess on hackintosh we have the same problem and due of lack of experienced hardware programmers all people there suggested that the Sony SNC device was responsible for the black internal screen, until now.

Could you kindly provide us with more information about this modified bios of the sony vaio z, that fixes this blackscreen-bug? Is it the vbios of the gfx card or the system bios?

Did you this patch or can you give me a link a email to someone who did this? Cool would be also a original firmware and modified firmware dump so we can see what bytes are changed.

The hackintosh community now is searching for a solution of this for 3 years now. I myself own a VAIO F11 with a gt330m card.

Btw. here is a link to the vbios of the vaio F11 (I suggest it’s the same for vaio F12 series):

    Thanks for information.

Sorry for the lack of reply – the modification is for the system BIOS/EFI, Read http://0xc0dedbad.com/blog/2010/01/30/dual-boot-linux-and-windows-7-on-sony-vaio-z/ for more information, and the comments for an example of the modified BIOS. There will likely be a modified BIOS floating around for your specific model, however I’ll leave that to you to track down (the article and comments should give you enough to go on).
